I thought you'd made a typo with the thread title. But perhaps not...

My dad always used to say - when we were kids in the car and someone came flying past on the outside - just you wait kids, we'll see them crashed around the next corner. We never did - until now.

I assume the driver survived, but what luck that no one else was around/involved/injured.

Crazy!

Absolute madness!

A similar thing happened when I was being given a lift from Hebden Bridge to work in Burnley about 20 years ago.

We were heading down The Long Causeway from the Coal Clough windfarm when my colleague suddenly shouted "Shiiiiiiittttttttttttttttttt!" I was about to ask him what was up when a car overtook us doing at least 100 mph. We were doing nearly 60 but he was out of sight of us within seconds.

That road is narrow, has sheep wandering across it and there are dangerously deceptive dips, blind summits and bends ahead.

Hang on ...here it is on Streetview. If you proceed along the road you'll see what I mean.

A minute or so down the road, we found the car on its side on top of a dry-stone wall!

Three very shaken-looking young men were sat on the grass embankment below it here.

My colleague stopped, leaned across me and shouted to the young men "Are you hurt? Does anyone require hospital treatment?"

One of them answered "No, we are all okay but could you give us a lift to Burnley?"

"You've got to be kidding moron - walk!" :hello:

Yes, the driver was going way too fast. Even so, was that really a terrible overtake? There was a 50mph speed differential, they estimate. The passing gap looked like about six to eight feet, maybe more.

I'm curious as to why people find that dangerous from a cyclist's point of view. Is it just that he crashed subsequently? BTW, I'm not stirring it, just confused.

Not a terrible overtake, but terrible driving.
And it's dangerous as the driver is clearly not capable of controlling the car at that speed on that road, as is blatantly obvious 30 seconds later...
