Whilst fixing a puncture, the valve inner core on my presta valve broke off, so need to get a couple of new inner tubes. Any recommendations - or are they much of a muchness? Any to avoid?

Thanks

Much the muchness imo.
I always buy the cheapest that's on offer at the time.

Just had a new Specialized one [3 for £10 at LBS] explode at 80psi just by the valve- it blew the bead of the tyre off. Never had a problem with Halfords off the shelf ones.

Cheap butyl ones are much of a muchness. Lightweight butyl like the Supersonics are a bit more focused, but the best tubes by far are latex. More expensive and you need to pump up everyday, but better ride quality, reduced rolling resistance and lower propensity to punctures will be your rewards

I tried to use a Specialized one by the side of the road yesterday. Could get no air into it at all with the mini pump, nor with either track pump when I got home (after an emergency please come rescue me call to my brother  ). Any thoughts on whether I am truly utterly feeble (managed ok with the spare Specialized one at home) or could it be a faulty tube? Big hiss of air once track pump released?

I am going to Wilkos to buy a couple at lunchtime

Are you talking about presta valves? You did slacken off the inner core of the valve, right? If you don't do that, you won't be able to get air into the tyre. Sorry for the numpty question.

Tempting  ..... but too nice a guy......no inner tubes can be a little hit and miss and its usually the valve that's the weak point, so probably a dud on the valve or is the air reaching the tube and the tube's split?
I use high end specialists for my inner tubes - Wilkos,Halfords etc for precision engineeriing.^_^
