hi all

I have my first road bike on order from wiggle! and should have delivery next week, should i need to do much to the bike before im road worthy other than adjust seat/ handlebars for positioning? eg would gears/brakes need to be calibrated - and if so, is it something i should be able to do easy enough myself?

i was pretty hesitant to buying online as i would of liked the lbs setup when i purchased but in reality what they offered for approx 100 quid more was im told a much lesser specd bike than wiggle!

any advice apprecated

cheers

I bought a Focus Cayo from Wiggle last May and the set up is basically done for you. I only had to re-align the handlebars and adjust the seat height. Everything else, gears and brakes, were spot on and still are.
I bought from Wiggle because of the value for money and have not regretted it. The bike came with a 30 day trial so I was quite prepared to send it back if I was not happy - even kept the huge cardboard box it came in for a month just in case.
Hope this helps - enjoy your bike.

in theory you should only have to attach the handlebars and then fit the pedals but you might find that the indexing on the gears are slightly out. just do a search on google or youtube and you will find how to do it.

if you have trouble doing this just take it to LBS for gear service.

Probably, because you won't get smooth gear changes, the bike will not stay in gear, or you will find that the gear it is in on the cassette at the back is not the same as the gear chosen on the shifters. What bike are you getting, out of interest ? A mate of mine just got a lovely carbon framed Focus from Wiggle and seems very happy with it.

You would know by the gears failing to change quickly... or at all

ok i should be sharp enough to know the gears are not changing lol

i went for the new felt z85 2012 - got a 20% discount to, so all the sweeter, ill leave a carbon bike for my next bike - otherwise i would never appreciate the difference

Pretty much what has already been said, but if you entered your height in the order screen like they ask the seat should even be right for you, although you might still tweak it for personal preference anyway.

I've bought 3 bikes from Wiggle and each one has been spot on out of the box
