Hello first time posting here. So a small introduction im David from scotland. Im only 15 but know quite a few things about bikes, even passing most professional looking people while out.

I was recently given a bike by my great grandfather who only recently gave up cycling at around the age of 93.

The bike has Full Reymonds? frame and complete Shimano 105(circa.1999-2004)not sure the exact year.

Just wondering if this was a still a decent bike to still use.

Welcome to CC David.
It would be very useful if you can post some pictures of the bike for people to view and give their opinions.

Welcome to the forum! :welcome:

105 parts are good, only behind Ultegra and Dura Ace in the Shimano road groupset range. Not quite sure what you mean by "Full Reymonds". Maybe you mean Reynolds? As in a Reynolds steel frame?

Do you have pictures, and/or a make and model? We could probably provide some more information about the bike with that.

Thats the name Reynolds. I believe it is 520.

I really need to get some pictures up, even if it might not be good to use as a road bike. It still has sentimental value.

I would use the frame for the next 40 years - it's still young for real steel. Look after it well and it will do the same for you.

I cant figure out how to post pictures directly to the forum.
Im not sure on the frame style for a young person, but really dont mind about my image + We really stupidly put it in the shed, so it appears to have some surface rust.

It looks like a women's frame, but I assume the old boy went for it at an old age to make dismounting easier. It says 531 which is a very good quality steel frame. I bought a similar but lower spec for my daughter a few years back and then resold it due to lack of use. Went very fast on Ebay

The Rear mech is a mid 90's 105 - I've got Dura Ace and 600/Ultegra from same era, so it's good. Chainset looks more recent. Brake Levers are mid 80's (or earlier - look like Weinnman) fine. Nice bike, change of cables sorted. Bar shifters look fairly recent (last 10 years).

It's a sound bike, it's a 'mixte' frame - for ladies usually - leg swing over helped your great grandfather, but if he could get on a bike at 93, then he is awesome :becool: - I only hope to be still riding at that age. This is a bike you must look after !! Even if you don't want to ride it, it needs to stay in your family for a lady!

All it needs is new gear and brake cables, maybe a new chain, and it will be a dream to ride !
