Only just got online, thanks to all those who've been sticking up for my sentiment. Having seen some of the other acheivements, overcoming illness etc, I wondered if my own little bit of respect was underwhelming, but I'm glad to see so many others see it for what it is.

As a matter of fact, it was mostly self funded, with a small local authority grant towards books. And since it's her first degree, she's only claiming the chance that everyone else has had offered to them, if they bother to take it. If she'd come from a better off family, she'd perhaps have had the chance when she was 18, having had a scholarship to a grammar school.

As for using it - well, she's spent her life working and bringing up me and my sister, usually on a tight budget, I think she deserves to do something for pleasure, don't you?
