My girfriend got a text message read out on the Chris Moyles Show yesterday.

"Wow!" I hear you say in a not-entirely convincing tone. OK, lots of people get messages read out on the radio, but this one made me really proud to be part of her life.

Those of you who follow the show may be aware that "Comedy" Dave (sic) has recently been getting some stick from his colleagues for the manner IN - WHICH - HE - SPEAKS - VERY - LOUDLY - AND - SLOWLY - TO - FOREIGNERS.

Apparently on yesterday's show they were talking to a girl from Sweden whose grasp of the English language was probably more advanced than the majority of Radio 1's audience, yet when confronted with the merest hint of a foreign accent, Dave lapsed into his usual routine, thus prompting my girlfriend to fire off the following message, which was then broadcast to the nation (much to Dave's chagrin):
I can't believe Dave did his "slow talk for foreigners" to the Swedish lass who spoke perfect English. Patronising moron."

What have the important people in your life done to make you feel really proud?

Turned his life, marriage and business around from being a debt ridden hole of depression to being profitable, happy and fulfilling.
Pretty impressive in my books.

But he's never had a text message read out on the radio.

OK, that's gonna be quite difficult to follow. People who've learnt to walk again step forward (not you Kirstie).

My Dad was a helicoper pilot who then became epileptic so couldn't fly again. So instead of falling apart, he learned to sail and has done the atlantic twice.

The thing that most impressed me most was when he whacked his thumb nail with a hammer, he drilled a tiny hole into the nail himself to relieve the pressure. Now THAT'S tough!

A few of you know that my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. She just got on with it and defeated it as she does everything else that gets in her way, having chemotherapy and still insisting on doing her bit in looking after the kids and cooking at the same time - not letting it interfere with her life at all. I was really impressed with her. She's feisty, argumentative, opinionated, and I love her to bits. There. That feels better.

Respect.

We were at a comedy club one night and the last comedian on thought he was a lot funnier than he actually was. He was just winding up for his last punchline when Mrs EMD let out a very amusing heckle (which is not like her in any form) I can't remember what she said but it totally ruined his last joke. The whole audience were creasing themselves laughing and the comedian walked off stage looking rather flustered. Give him his dues, he came up after and had a laugh with us about it.

My OH works in a terminally ill home and can tell me each and every patient's name, illness, personality and prognosis.

Everytime someone passes away, she feels it.

She's also doing a course to gain a full degree (as it was a diploma in her day  ) which means travelling to Brum. All through the snow, she was the only one out of 5 who turned up in the morning, did the lectures and then went back to work until nearly midnight.

Total respect.

imo there is no point in a 73 yr old having a degree that funding has been completley wasted, should have gone to a young person who really need's it!

You are joking???
