That's because you didn't come down to Kingston... I told you you should! Seriously though, there's no shortage of pancakes in Ontario IME.

On hashbrowns - I've found they tend to be in US chains, I find, but there are all kinds of variations on homefries. But you are right, mushrooms don't seem to be that common in breakfasts.

If you'd told me there would be pancakes maybe you'd have tempted me to make the detour! Seriously, it would have been great to meet you. Shame it was too far off route.

Cant beat a greasy spoon.
In the middle of nowhere, Kings Cliffe, a small village with an even smaller industrial estate on the edge, there s a cafe i stop at on my longer midweek rides, bacon, egg, toast, beans, toast and a proper mug of tea....about £3.50. You just cant beat it. Dont know about weekends tho..

A52 at Sedgebrook, a few miles from Belvoir Castle, a proper transport cafe. Pop in there on Sundays when i'm up in Nottingham. Seen gaggles of club riders in there occasionally.

Just off J7A (i think) off the M11 on the Harlow/Epping road, again a proper transport cafe. Jeez, the works in there....used to stop in there regular.

Is a good fry up really so bad for you ?

I was at one a few weeks ago, in Bolton.

Slightly suspect stains on the menu, overweight people in tracksuits, no Michelin stars and only one option on the coffee.

Ordered an all day mega breakfast!

Seeing as the subject of pancakes has been brought up, once on a work trip to New York I wanted a big brekky, so i could skip lunch and concentrate on seeing the sights. (I had a free day, you see)
The waitress was mightily impressed by the 8 blueberry pancakes (+syrup +cream) I managed to put away.

How much does it cost to Oldham?
Hah. When I used to get over to the states the company used to give you an allowance for lunch and dinner, but Bed and breakfast was at cost. One morning after being on the piss all night me and another engineer had pancakes, bacon, eggs, beans blah blah blah........and a Lobster each.

I'm sure I saw a thread here last year about a mega-breakfast - 10 of everything - that was bonkers!!

Basic big breakfast is the way to go. Bags of fat and cholesterol, real butter on the toast, toast burned to a near black crisp, lashings of brittle crispy bacon, sausages swishing around like they're on an ice rink ... hhhmmmmmm.

I recommend The Artful Dodger in Burnham on Sea. Open 8-2 every day and so busy it is hard to get a table at weekends. I have a Mr Brownlow, 2 hashbrowns, bacon, sausage, beans or tomatoes and a fried egg on top off a piece of fried bread. Along with a round of toast and a pot of tea it's £4.80

Went to a great one in Abergavenny last Saturday, Hazels on Frogmore Street. The air was thick with grease as were the slightly tacky and faded menus - complete with menu change stickers on them, written in biro. There's quite a few fancy eating establishments in Aber (I know!) but this one looked unponcey and it had tables that were free.

Double egg and chips, bread and butter, pot of tea - lovely!

went to a fantastic one when cycling across wales on the sustrains route. I went for the smallest breakfast....not sure I could manage the mammoth....like 4 everything. The plate was as bigger than my torso

Just in the industrial estate behind the holiday inn
