Very nice bike, my 1977 Galaxy has Weinmann 750 centre pulls (front/rear) they have a long drop, so when I changed wheels from 27inch to 700c touring wheels the brakes had a long enough drop to still work.

Nice, the Suntour Power ratchet friction shifter is my fav.

that is good to know re the brakes, I'll have a test tonight with the Peugeot's wheels, its only 4mm needed i think 622 vs 630 ISO / BSD

re sun tour Mine are the bar-con version, but same principle and mini-clicky action for precision!

So you could have ridden it home ^_^
So you should have ridden it home ^_^ FTFY
You two can bog-off!

Time and mileage apart, virtually every route out of Glaisdale, where it was being stored involves a 25% plus hill. To be honest I might struggle up them on 34-29 on my best bike or the 30-28 winch on the Peugeot, but pretty sure I would have be walking on 38-28. And the there is the other 254 miles, I think my max in a day was about 120, I'm not a sleep in bus shelter audax type.

I thought I had golden hubs, but it was a layer of grime😂. Anyone recognise them, it's shimano C E written on them, and under the clip thing there is a tiny port hole - is that for lube. Weinmann rims.

The brakes will accommodate 700c wheels, front brake is a weinmann 610, which just fits and the rear is a Weinmann 750, with bags of adjustment to spare. That said the wheels have clean up rather nicely and run smooth and true, so I think they are keepers.

I set to on the rims last night, whilst watching the football and TdeF highlights, with the old tin foil and water treatment. They have come up a lot better than they started off, plus a package of cables, brake block, bar tape, toe straps etc has also arrived to keep me amused later in the week.

So got a new chain on it last night (oddly the old one was a bit long and rubing on itself in small small, despite loads of mech capacity to get it set at the right length), more cleaning once I could get to mechs etc. BB runs as smooth as, which is nice. I popped some kool stops on and gave it a spin around the block, with a huge grin on my face. It rides beautifully, and will "no hands" easily in a straight line - my crude test to make sure frame etc all aligned.
Just cables & cosmetic stuff to do now - bar tape, toe straps etc. before an "after" photo call. I got some leather bar tape from Spa, that stuff smells gorgeous!

After shots, after a lot of cleaning and polishing. The other half raised an eyebrow when I threw some rusty straddle bolts into her glass of coke!
