Having researched and chosen my new bike, I am probably going to have to cancel the order.

Sadly my car has been written off, and I will need to buy a new one, about two years earlier than I had planned.

I do need a car for work, and can't be without it, but I am very sad about the bike too.

However, my insurance pay out alone won't be enough for a new car, I think.

My son was driving it last week and skidded on diesel spilled on the road after heavy rain storm.

It went up an embankment and back down on to its roof. Thankfully, for my son, he was going relatively slowly at the time, so a lot of the momentum of the crash was lost as the car went up the muddy embankment, so the drop on to its roof was slow, and he was able to climb out virtually unscathed.

Thankfully not hurt.
Guess weve all done it at some time - when i did it my dad was in the car with me - i remember us both hanging there by our seatbelts.
Hope you dont have to wait to long for the new bike.

It could have happened to any of us, I am sure. The police were very professional and attentive at the scene, but also, having closed the road to recover the car and taking time to look at the whole scene, agreed with him how it happened and the council sanded the road down too.

The only injury he got was a mark down his neck, we think either from the upside down seatbelt effect, or flying glass.

That is such a shame  Look at it this way. No loss of life and there wil be better bikes to choose from when you can afford one

I may have used "skidded on diesel in the rain" with my father too...

Keep the bike on order. Just get a cheaper car...

Had I not been at the scene I might have been cynical too.

However, the road surface was slippy even just to walk on, and one of the police vehicles who came out also skidded, so in that, at least, his version is vindicated.

however, a more experienced driver may well have dropped their speed (even though he was well within the speed limit) even more, given the rain/slippy summer roads scenario.

However, I reckon he has learned a harsh lesson, and he will be paying me back the high excess for him on my insurance for many months to come, so that is another lesson.

Depending on what my next quote is, he may find himself not being named on my policy again if it is too costly, so he is certainly learning a tough lesson about the realities of driving.

Sadly inexperience is the greatest danger a driver can face. I was luck in that I clocked up around 20000 miles before my test. I had a shitter of a car. My Mum had a car, my dad had a car and my fiancée had a car all of which I could drive. Different sizes, cc's and one auto box. It meant I had experience of riving in all weather conditions and a change to experience more situations than many drivers of my age.

I've spun a car as a youngster, fortunately nothing coming the other way, and I did a 360. Missed the walls, and also missed going off the side of the road down into a valley. A mate had spun and sent his car down the valley. Similar conditions, damp road, within speed limit - mistake was to press the brake more - experience tells you you don't, but at 19 I didn't have that (and the tyres were cheap ones - never bought any cheap tyres since).

Glad your son is fine - that's what's important. Some great deals on nearly new cars out there !
