Hi there people , I've signed up to this forum so somebody could finally help me out with my bike before I throw it off a bridge!

For months now I've had a clicking noise, it seems to rear it's ugly sound whenever it feels like it. Sometimes it won't happen at all others it'll be there for my entire journey home.

It occurs more on my 'right' set of gears and gets louder the higher the number I am. This made me think it was something to do with my gears.....but to confuse things more I decided not to change gear (to help find the cause) and the clicking sound still came about after about 10 minutes. The pressure/speed of my peddling makes no difference at all.

I don't think its anything to do with my derailleur either, the clicking happens in time with every pedal.

I've also had the bottom bracket recently replaced.

I've taken it to my bike shop and they fobbed me off with some rubbish about changing gears properly and that it could even be my bottle holder, its definitely neither of them.

Thanks!

I have the same thing. My bike shop had it back as it was under warranty and it's still the same. The half-wit at my bike shop gave me a lecture about changing gear properly too. I don't go there anymore.

When I've had clicking/creaking sounds before I've sometimes solved it by applying a little grease to my seatpost where it meats the collar, and the dropouts on the forks. Both times this worked, I would have sworn that the noises were not coming from those areas. Good luck

i had a click every pedal only last week and to be honest it nearly sent me mad trying to find it  it was rhythmic so something to do with pedal area , only come on with pressure so couldn.t be checked upside down , greased everywhere - still there , changed pedals - still there checked chain incase it had something catching front mech - in the end it was a loose chainring bolt - tightened it up and now silent running . worth a try - eliminate things one by one - stand up to see if seat - go up and down road in different shoes with pedals upside down , change back wheel -- good luck

Maybe treat rhythmic clicks as a metronome and sing along to them?

Just a thought...

I've had various annoying clicks and for me they've most often been from the pedal bearings - usually a clean, regrease and adjust sorts that. I've also had them from the end of the gear cable catching on my shoe and from the shoe laces tapping against the crank on each revolution. That last one drove me nuts 'til I worked it out.

Try doing the easiest things first... Take your pedals off, clean the threads where they screw into the cranks with a baby wipe, clean the thread on the inside of the cranks the same way. Apply a little multi-purpose grease before screwing back in. This has worked for me before.

Another possible source of clicking is the freehub body that attaches to the drive side of the rear hub. If the freehub body is worn, regular clicking will occur: I've had this myself, as I tend to wear out parts pretty regularly on my commuter, due to doing long distances on it. You could also check whether the cable end for the front derailleur is clear of the right crank.
