Hi all, just wondered what would you choose. Have posted in the past asking for advice on a lower budget. Now have an increased budget of £850 and have spotted the following bikes:

Giant Defy 2 (2010) - £740
Trek 1.5 (2010) - £700
Scott Speedster S30 Ultegra (2009) - £850
Specialized Allez Elite (2010) - £800

Simple bit - which one would you go for?
Anyone aware of a Merida or a Wilier in that price range that's worth looking at?

I think the Scott Speedster Ultegra is better than the others by quite a bit. It will definitely be worth spending the full £850 for that!

Bad news - Scott Speedster Ultegra no longer available.

Is the Scott Speedster S30 (2010) for £799 worth adding to the list?

These are all very good bikes and as many will say take them for a test ride and one will feel just right over the other. I have a Giant and would very much recommend. The only reason I go a Giant over the Allez was the way it felt so go and get test riding ! Shame the Ultegra Scott is gone as that looked the pick of the bunch spec wise.

Good luck

I'm in the same boat really and plan to test ride them to see what's best. One other tho, my lbs has set up an Orbea Aqua for me to try out if we ever get a dry day again.
I think Banjo got the last Scott Ultegra but if you can find the Allez Spesh Elilte 2009, it's a better spec than the 2010 model.

Tested a Trek 1.5 and it didn't feel right. Have abandoned the Scott bikes so I've got what I think is my final shortlist after I paid a visit to my local shop today. It is as follows:

Giant Defy 2 - £740
Specialized Allez Elite - £800
Wilier Escape Xenon - £720
Ridley Eos - £765

Was very impressed by the Ridley but can't find any reviews at all. Anyone got any more info on it?

Can't find any reviews on the Ridley. Can anyone help because I want to know it's a good bike before I go and buy it just for the looks, which are exceptional!
