Oscar Peterson
John Coltrane
Mozart
Vaughan Williams
Bjork
Lou Reed/The Velvet Underground (can they count as one artist? Please?)
Enablers
God Speed! You Black Emperor
Sufjan Stevens
Schubert

Ideally more classical and jazz would be in there, but I need the variation. Sufjan's on there due to the fact that he's got 48 states left to go in his an album for each state of America project - so, 50 albums would be a good catalogue to have at any time.

Good call, in so many ways very similar to a list I could make, so I am going to have to make mine deliberately slightly different!

I'll keep Sufjan Stevens, and the Velvet Underground (and on another day, Bjork, but not today). But plus:
Bach
Curtis Mayfield
Orbital
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
Kinks
Miles Davis
dEUS
Super Furry Animals

Haven't really strayed very far from these in the last 20 years, so I can't see me changing now.

In no particular order

Zep
Genesis
Clash
Rush
Iron Maiden
Dave Matthews Band
Black Sabbath
AC/DC
Yes

stuck on the last one, but it could be between CSN/Neil Young, Dio, Metallica or Fairport. You would need to select bands with a large catalogue to ensure you had some variety.

I could more than likely make do with Beethoven's late string quartets, with perhaps Hindemith's viola oeuvre thrown in for some light relief.

It might be:-

Queen
REM
Sparks (just discovering their wondeful oddness - big back catalogue too!)
Keith Jarrett
Ladysmith Black Mombazo (spelling?)
Faith No More
Euthymics
Jools Holland (squeeze and his big rythym and blues orchestra)
Faithless
Pink Floyd
The divine comedy

Then I'd come and borrow your cd's.
