No. 36. Her husband or my wife might not be too happy though.

My wife always says that she would like to move to Cornwall

but it isn;t a real desire - just a dream
given the opportunity - even without having to stay around here due to grandkids etc - she still wouldn;t go

best to keep it as a dream and place to visit

We NEARLY moved to Cornwall in the 70s (I had a job offer) but my wife was too close to her parents (I also loved them).
Later on she was too close to the grandchildren.
Now......
Her parents have passed away.
She has now passed away.
Grandchildren have their own lives.
MORAL.......
LIve your own life, you get but one chance.
Edit.
Thinking that over, we really enjoyed our time with all 3 generations so am I right? Not so sure now.

I quite fancy the Scillies, as does Mrs D. Sadly decent property is expensive. I could afford it but don't want to significantly eat j to my reserves.

However, by the time Mini D leases school in 6 years...

I find some places that ar elovely in summer are even nicer in winter - in spite of the bad weather

although the concept of "nipping down to the shops" taking over an hour of travelling each way would take a lot of getting used to

I do feel a lot of people - especially ones I see on the telly - find a lovely country cottage miles away from anywhere and move there as their dream when they retire and never think about how they will get to the shops/pub when the can't get about so easily any more.

I had a holiday in Wyoming last summer, the tenth largest state in the USA, but the smallest by population. Next to Montana and Idaho both equally empty, I quite like that, the plus 40c to minus 40c annual temperature range would be a bit difficult to get used to though.

There are several with that name as I recall.
Think on the travel problems also. No ferries working.
I do like to look on the bright side but there are limits.

We're just back from there and we were lucky with the ferries (the sourhern one was withdrawn from service).

My Bernaray is at tge north of the Uists where you get the ferry to Harris. The beach and the old Hostel is my happy place :-)

Long time now since I was last there. There were wood lined toilets I remember which must have seemed a good idea at one time but were a bit tired. They were put there no doubt to impress HRH now king as he spent some time playing at being a crofter.

Re the weather in North Yorkshire it's variable across the county which does extend from the east coast to c. 8 miles from the west coast. Skipton has the least reliable weather forecast for anywhere on in the country. To the east of the Pennine chain with what is supposed to be the prevailing wind direction, a westerly, is the drier area then you have the raised North York Moors / Yorkshire Wolds. As such the eastern side of the Vale of Mowbray/York can take a battering from clouds which have earlier soaked Skipton and the western side of the Pennine chain and then floated east harmlessly for some distance despite how threatening they may look.
The eastern side of the county suffers from weather swept in from North Sea, quite noticeable with the current easterly and low cloud typical along the coast spread inland.

Moved from Yorkshire to Sussex three years and absolutely love. I ride my bike much more simply because the weather is so much better.

As most people will be aware life expectancy is higher down here. I work in cardiology and used to assume it was due to healthcare provision but now I live here I realise people exercise much much more than in the north.

Oxford; or failing that another of the old, civilsed uni cities like Bath or Bristol.

I also like the idea of living somewhere remote / a lot more rural like the lake district or north Wales, however realistically I need everything on the doorstep for me to interact with it (people included) and the more rural the less viable the bike is going to become as a main means of transport.

Globally, I'd move to Utrecht in the Netherlands in a heartbeat if I could.

I’ve lived here for 22 years now and love it, but the traffic does get me down, we are probably ready for a move out of the city.
