Personally, I'd get a custom built tourer, with a mountain bike triple crankset, 9 speed cassette (11-32t) built on a SRAM E12*. Of course the wheels tyres would be from a Pugsley to cope with cornering, at the speeds it'd do downhill
In fact... I'd just have a Pugsley with panniers, with the rear wheel on a custom hub
*I realise the Elan E12 isn't designed for combining with a cassette, but imagine the speed if it were to be modified
My old Specialized (1992 version) had carbon tubes in Al alloy lugs and from a distance looked (a little) like a Cielo - I think that's where the obsession started. I have emailed Merlin asking for details but until someone decides to pay scientists like bankers, it's out of my budget.
