If I get a puncture ...

Another vote for the spare tube and repair kit. I was always going to get the stuff and keep it on the bike but somehow never did and then last year the fairy paid me a visit on the way to work and I had to walk the last couple of miles with the bike. Bought all the stuff that very day ..

Same thing happened to me. Kit and tube now. Got to say, that fairy sucks. I've been putting the non serviceable tubes under my pillow each night for a few weeks now, and nothing... B)

Good idea .. hadn't thought of that. She's visited Little-LC the last two times we've been out as a family as well, in her guise of a great big f' off thorn.

You must make up a PRK for each bike you own.

It will have a spare tube of the correct size, a Tip-top 'Tourist' repair kit, a pair of plastic levers and a good size piece of emery cloth.
Also a wad of tissues all inside a zip fastening wallet.

The PRK for my SWorks has a Zefal hpr Graph pump held on with some hair bands from Claire's Accessories.

The PRK for my Dawes has a Blackburn Airstick held on with a couple of 'Helpforheros' wristbands.
The zip fastening bag is from Claire's Accessories and has a flouro yellow panel where the zip is sewn so when its in my backpocket, its extra visiblity for the motorists.

I just take two tubes.

Me too.

Can't be faffing about with PRKs. I never use a repaired tube, just bin it and use a new one.

If i get one puncture, i change the tube and then amend my route to start heading towards home. On the off chance i get another, the 2nd tube would be used. On the off-off chance i get a 3rd, i've always got phone to ring for a lift or some cash for train.

So if you get a puncture after half a mile of riding you head back home??

Mmmmm, think you may have found a flaw in my plans!

Fortunately i've never had two punctures on a ride, and the only time i've had a puncture since i started riding in March was about 10miles out, so i was almost ready to be turing round anyhow.

Maybe i do need a PRK ?

each bike has 2 tubes, repair kit and self adhesive patches, plus levers and other tools. Currently these are in saddle or rack pack but have on order a couple of the pretend drink bottles for storage as well.

I take a spare tube on longer journeys but as I've got rsi and can't get the tyre off and on in the same day, my plan is to stick fairly near civilisation /public transport and if possible appeal to a passing male cyclist for help. I've also got kevlar lined tyres.

Well I took in a 30+ mile ride on Sunday, and thankfully I didn't need to make use of the newly acquired PRK and spare tube combo ;)

Thanks to everyone for your advice.

MacB, I think you're the 1st one to mention the fairly useful tyre levers in this thread. But that's a pretty cool idea about the drinks bottle.
