With the amount of cycling we've done this year my poor legs are almost permanently tired and tight. I know that a hot bath and a good self-massage of the quads and calves really helps but I wish I knew a masseur who could give me a good going over every day. It needs to be somebody with big strong hands.

How much does a half hour massage cost anyway?

I pay £45 for an hour of sports massage, £35 for 30 mins I think. But I need an hour for a good pummel of shoulders, neck, back, legs

Or you could spend £20 on a foam roller and diy if just legs

Luckily I have a qualified friend who sorted me out for 45min.

Gotta say, I was very sore for a few days after! But she sourced the cause of the pain I was having, which ironically was nowhere near the actual pain!

Id definitely be happy to pay in future ( or I could actually stretch after rides )

Or a tennis ball.
Both works wonders.

I see a sports masseur for a two hour "MOT" roughly every month. Was recommended by sporting friends. Charges £35 for this session (I think it's £30 an hour normally) and worth every penny. Hurts like hell :-). If I had more time and money I'd have a regular 1 hour massage every week but settle for foam rolling.

I'm almost tempted to get qualified and suggest a few friends do then we can help each other out for free, as weird as that sounds .

I wouldn't forget the benefits of stretching to help with the tiredness and tightness (and not all stretching is equal!)

Other than that the this British Cycling page has some more details about foam rollers https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/knowledge/article/izn20140807-Physiotherapy-Foam-Roller-Routine-0

I recently paid £20 for one hour which I thought was expensive but looking at other posts here it appears to be quite cheap!

Globati,

I have the answer and it is sitting with arms reach as I type.

I used to run marathons and had the same problem as you and someone suggested I bought an electronic massage kit. I would finish a training run, have a shower and get in front of the tv and wire myself up for 30 minutes. It dissapates lactic acid, tones the muscles but best of all it feels great and is really relaxing. The difference is huge. I have used the machine for over 20 years for all sorts of muscular aches and pains. I still use it on a regular basis.

The model I have got is called the Elysée electronic Bodyman Digital. I am sure they must make modern version of it but mine was cheap, simple to operate and has 10 pads. It has paid its worth a hundred times.

This is the answer to your problem and probably costs a couple of massage sessions.
