Congrats Punky! Is this something you did for work or just something you're interested in?

Was interested in it, did the introduction to counselling years back and got hooked, but hoping to turn it into a paid job. Fortunately I can stay on at my placement, so I'm getting more experience and can work towards my BACP accreditation, which should make finding a job a lot easier!!!

Forget about writing any more essays. You've passed! Congratulation!

Hard to explain...a pc counsellor offers counselling on pretty much any possible issue, but unlike other forms of counselling, it is not directive, we don't give advice. Instead it is based on Carl Rogers' theory that every individual has an inate actualising tendency and will strive towards becoming a fully functioning person, however, conditions of worth, negative self-concepts, a need for positive regard from others, etc get in the way. So, rather than giving clients the answers, you help them to find their own answers by offering the core conditions (the three main ones being empathy, congruence and unconditional positive regard). Unlike CBT and others it is not a quick fix, but it does work for a lot of people and allows them to go at their own pace.

Not sure if that makes any more sense, and there is a lot more to it, but it would take at least a lenghty essay to explain it all....

Well done, PP!

But's what that (the above) in English?

Well done PP, now can you help me decide whether to replace the cork handlebar tape on my best bike with cloth tape as the dilema is having a seriously detrimental efect on my mental state. ;)

I haven't slept for a week ;)

Makes perfect sense to me. It's an empowering approach; people know their own answers, they just need help to find them. That help comes in the form of encouragement and positive support, not in telling them what their problem is and what to do about it.

I can buy into that. I wish you well with it! ;)

btw, well done. I have a mate from my running club who is studying this sort of thing. I wouldn't have expected it from him, but he seems to be really into it. The only problem is he starts life-coaching you when you're out on the p155. It's a bit annoying.
