i'm getting some decent shorts and will investigate the saddle to see if it can be changed for another brand/type.

why do i ride only inside? my balance is pretty average/below and i tried riding with friends in London(i don't live there) on the roads on a Boris/Barclays bike once - the traffic scared me to death. my fear made me ride wobbly and uncertain i guess. didn't crash but had to duck under the wing mirror of a parked lorry as i was riding too close to it.

apart from that, i just haven't rode a bike since i was very young and am only doing it to lose weight/get fit as it's easier than running/swimming. i'm a few stone overweight so being self conscious plays a part too. once i am slimmer/fitter i may well get a real bike and work my way up.

I have one of those exercise bikes, I find the saddle far more uncomfortable with padded shorts myself, I just wear jogging shorts or cargos, even jeans. I don't think the saddle is easily changeable

I'm not surprised cycling London roads was scary, but honestly it doesn't have to be like that. and yes, fear makes you more wobbly.... and you managed to duck!. It is great though to be out in the country in the spring, larks singing, young rabbits chewing grass in the verges, kamikaze pheasants, being overtaken by roadsweepers... Think about it if you get bored indoors. :bicycle:
You don't have to look like a tour de france rider to ride a bike and you don't have to have smart bike, and if you are going slower then more people smile at you! I spent about 6 1/2 years of the last 8 years in hospital and I started cycling regularly in the autumn. It is hard quite often but I get so much out of it. When I started I could only manage about 8 miles and it took me about an hour and when I got back I used to sit on the floor for 20 minutes... now I still have to sit on the floor but I go at lot further..or that's my excuse.
