I made this thread back in 2014 about me trying to find a seat. Unfortunately I'm still having problems.

For a quick recap, I have a Carrera Crossfire 1, which is hybrid/mountain bike. I could never get comfortable with the seat that came with it, I tried a load of seats from Halfords, but had no joy. I then ordered myself a Charge Spoon, again no luck, then I went to a shop and got my bum measured and ended up with my current torture device.

My sit bones ache, my "perineum" (think that's the right word, and my bum cheeks in general, I've been using this seat for ages now, normally cycling 4-5 days a week and I'm not getting any kind of improvement.

Any recommendations on what I can try?

Do you wear padded shorts?

No no no! This is one of the great cycling myths, like shaving your legs for aerodynamics and anyone in SC&P ever riding a bike. By rights the first and last Brooks I've ever owned should only be eligible for parole in 2025 for what it did to me.

Brooks B17 standard width is the comfiest saddle I've ever used. It was OK from day one then took a bit to go from adequately rideable to absolutely bum friendly comfortable but now its there, it will always be the saddle on my best bike.

Generally: Have you considered your bum & saddle as part of a triangle of contact points with your bike, feet/pedals and hands/bars also have an effect on your body posture and interaction with the saddle. It might be worth considering crank length, bar height, stem reach etc in conjunction with further saddle tweaks.

The saddle in the pic looks like it's a near relative of the Spesh Toupe. I've just ridden home on one of the narrower Toupes and it works for me. I see that you live in Kent so you're not a million miles from me and I also have one of the saddles pictured in @phil_hg_uk 's post above. If you want to try it out PM me.
