Under consumer law you now have the right to take anything back if it is broken or faulty - in this case he could argue it is 'faulty' because it is the wrong size for him - aslong as he hasn't had it for more than about 30 days
I would say that for a bike as non-budget as a Supersix I would expect any shop selling it to at least attempt to have a dialogue pre-sale with the customer to determine and advise on bike sizing, of only to say "we did check that". But I would be interested if sale of goods act applies here as the bike isn't defective or unfit for purpose.
some good advice above. id add, tweak seat, stem, brifters, over a week or two, bit here bit there, bit back, etc. shorter stem and moving the seat back n forth are the crucial little shifts.
