I have very tight/short hamstrings, so much so that I suffer from a lower back problem and visit an osteopath for regular maintenance of the problem. I do some stretches for my hamstrings, calves, glutes, quads and back and countless sit ups and oblique sit ups and would be interested to know of any additional excercises or stretches you could suggest.

Tight hamstrings are ubiquitous among cyclists. What kind of hamstring stretches are you doing? Not standing, I hope. Work on core strength to support back as well.

While I recommend a sports physio to advise and oversee your personal situation, there are good recommendations online. Just use judiciously.

Thanks for the feedback. I do standing hamstring stretches, one leg on seat of chair stretch oposing hand to ankle and hold for a count of ten. Regarding the osteo I have a lower disc that is damaged in such a way that occaisonallly my back will twist to the right and the muscle goes into spasm keeping me listed over, the osteo relieves this and making visits evry 8 weeks or so to keep things supple stops it recurring so frequently. Each to his own, it works for me, before I had regular treatment I'd have an occurence about every 8-12 weeks anyway and enf up needing three or so visits to fix it.
