SJS Cycles might be a help. Your other option is a standard freehub hub, then get an 8 speed cassette and use additional spacers to use it 6/7 speed. I've done that in the past using a variety of 8-10 speed freehubs with 7 speed cassettes. 2 extra 3mm spacers on the spoke side, then the cassette. My MTB is still 7 speed on newer Mavice Crossride wheels.

Think outside the box. If you are short of spacers, I could send you some.
Thanks fossy!

It's single speed and I want to keep using my White Industries Freewheel

Ah,

I'll have a look about, but if SJS don't have it, I'd be surprised. They can usually source anything - phone them. They got my a Dura Ace 7410 headset when no-one else could.

Brilliant! Thanks, I'd been looking for built wheels but knowing these are available will help with conversations with wheel builders next week.

Thank you

Wheel rebuild if the rims are good ? New spokes, should save a fair amount of money. Have a chat with Will from Wills Wheels in Heaton Chapel if you are south of the city.

I'm very close to Eddie McGrath's and I filled in their online contact form already. If needs be I'll send them the links. Wills Wheels is also on the list

Thanks

If a person were already paying for a hub, spokes, and the skills of someone to put them together, the additional expense of a new rim would be relatively minor. Without wishing to be hurtful here, you are not a lightweight racing snake, and the additional 4 spokes wouldn't hurt.
And a lot of my route is unsurfaced

32's are fine. My commute wheels have always been 32 hole, and stood up to me, 23mm tyres and 2 fully loaded panniers with heavy locks, so don't limit yourself to just 36h hubs. Buy what ever is easiest to get.

One set of quotes so far in the region of £340

Also had a quote to build one round one of the DMR hubs for £60 if I supply the hub and the rim.

That's looking favourite at the moment.

[EDIT because I realised I cannot reuse the rim on that hub]

£60 sounds about right, I get my wheels built quite cheaply by John but he reckons he enjoys building em and does it of an evening whilst listening to the radio (it's a bit like knitting for blokes I suppose)

Lovely guy, he must be in his 70s now,

Well, I am a lucky boy!

As I was shopping around for hubs and rims I stumbled across an eBay listing for a rear wheel from a Genesis Day One Disc! Unused! And I won the auction!

Very happy bunny.

It arrived yesterday and I fitted it (new brake pads too, at both ends of the bicycle) this morning

Thank you everyone for your help and advice.
