I fired off a stone and might've broken a window

There i was riding along this afternoon when i went over a tarmac stone. I wobbled a bit as i felt the stone fly to my right. It made a whistling kind of ricochet noise then i heard a loud crack! I think the stone might have hit a car's side window. I think i heard the car that passed me at that time of the stone flying through the air stop suddenly. Do you think a stone about the size of a large marble could break a car's window and if it did should i have stopped and given them my details, even though i don't have any bike insurance? I hate it when i t happens as i was hit by a flying stone the other month when a wagon went over a pothole and fired off a stone. It hit me on the shin and hurt like @!$!!!

It would be enough to crack it yes.

But unless you did it deliberately or were being careless you're not liable.

I didn't want to hang around to be honest. I know it sounds a bit unfair if i did break the window but i had images of Mr Angry confronting me and getting a bit violent. Maybe i did the right thing and went quietly away.

If I thought I had hurt somebody I would stop and check, but I am pinging stones all the time it cannot be helped (the council could address surface issues but then that's another story), and as you say other vehicles do the same thing and they won't even know it's happening being less exposed.

I pinged one earlier and it went right across the pavement and heard it hit a bin; it surprised me how far, and how quick/forceful it went. But then with 110psi in my tyres going above 15mph I guess it happens.

I've also had stones pinged at me from passing cars and it hurts! But I don't blame them.

Common method used for smashing car windows are small stones. Even smaller than the one you described, "small marble".

Cars do it all the time. Get hit by one and you'll know.

Most car insurances cover glass with no effect on no claims etc so I wouldn't worry - no different to a car doing similar just one of those things that happen.

That unfortunately is wrong in a way, most carry an excess, most will not give you no claims for that year if you are building. Also the majority will increase the premiums, it is something few know about.

Indeed; I had protected no claims with which I could have three claims in five years. I had a chip repaired FOC and found out at renewal
that this counted as one claim.
