I finally want to moan about Garmins and their mounts

I have had several wrist based Garmins culminating with the 920XT that I use for triathlons. Great bit if kit. I use the quick release bracket on the back of the watch to mount on the bars, which works a treat

The tabs on the back of he watch are at 12 and 6 on the clock, and the cut outs on the mount are at quarter past and quarter too. You slot it in and turn 90 degrees and you are looking at it the right way

However my new Garmin 1000 is designed with the tabs/slots 90 degrees different. So the mount on the bars is wrong for one of the devices. My mount is this one, which is adjustable but needs a few mins and and a small allen key to change> like this one (slots are at the top on this pic)

So we have the bonkers equvialent of Shimano making MTB mechs to go on the left and road ones for the right

As it stands I have to have two mounts on each bike unless I do tons of fiddling

Anyone got any clever ideas to solve?

You could always go crazy and wear the watch on your wrist

My simple solution is to ride without GPS. I know that doesn't help, mind. I've enjoyed my riding much more since I left all that behind.

BTW what about a mounting kit (with two elastic bands) for the stem? You can turn it round really easily.
Interesting idea! However I get great enjoyment out of the stats even though I don't compete on strava or at a high level in triathlon.. I use an out front mount because it is easier to see due to my old man eyesight and I do have loads of the rubber mounts... Less secure and too far back..

I have found the garmin 1000 a revelation and improved my rides enormously as I don't need to worry about navigation any more.. In fact I am about to go on a 1200k tour with it

K-edge mounts have 4 holes tapped in the metal part, so you can rotate the plastic base 90 degrees. Ergo problem solved

I have one, yes, and it can be rotated, but only by undoing the two miniature allen bolts, removing them and refitting the holder. Unless I have misunderstood it, or there is a different model

You've not misunderstood. Unscrewing, rotating and then screwing the base back on takes only a few seconds
