I'm 5 foot 9 and as fat as can be. As long as weight does not rise/fall dramatically over a short period of time; I cannt see a reason to be too worried. Looking towards the 12st barrier but I won't be hung up on it.

Out of interest, I just worked out my bmi...with a height of 1.81 and a weight of about 67kg, that gives me 20.5...I can live with that quite happily I think!

Do women tend to have a higher bmi than men?

As long as I breathe, I attack.
When i was in my 20s i got down to 10 1/2 stone and felt "weak" when trying to do strength based sports .

Currently i am middle aged and 11 1/2 stone with a bmi hovering in the mid 24s.

Keep and eye on it mate and hope you get sorted .

Talking of medicals i had a strange result last year when at work i had my 40 medical. They found an irregular ecg and high pottasium levels and even though i commute regulary my breathe test was not as high as they expected.............pottasium = bannanas i guess but i guess im just getting the best out of what i have got will power can make up for a lot

Heres one to ponder.....

If a body builder is so buff he has got to weigh more so theerfore on the bmi he would be overweight
I find the whole bmi to simple i go by visual appearance as there aer too many factors to take into consideration

+1

I am 6ft 4 and quite broad shouldered, when I was swimming at county/national level at around 17/18 my BMI was always high and those scales you get at the leisure center always had me at 1 - 1.5 stone overweight yet I was swimming training 7 - 8 times a week didnt appear to have an ounce of fat on me! My brother in law has a great physique and goes to the gym regularly, he is very muscley and they put him at almost 2 stone overweight!

Now they say I am 2.5 - 3 stone overweight yet I aim to lose 1.5 maybe 2 stone at a maximum to get back to what I believe is my healthy/fit weight. Those measurements are a guide and are based on average/moderate muscle masses so they should never be taken too seriously if you are a few points either side.

Hi. I would ignore your BMI if I was you. I'm 5'8" and was 71 kgs but my bodyfat% was down towards 12% which makes me technically lean but my BMI showed me as towards the top of healthy (I lift weights so have a higher Body Muscle%) As you have a sky high metabolism you need to be eating every 3 hours. I eat cereal and a protein shake at 0800, will have a boiled egg or ham sandwich at 11, tuna pasta at 1400, main meal at 1700, snack at 2000 and protein shake before bed (and I am trying to reduce body fat). I recommend going to the maximuscle website and use the colarie counter. If you put your cardio in it will tell you how many calories you need. You can then use the meal planner to make sure you are eating enough. Cheers

Do you get alot of comments on being too skinny.
I've had several in the past couple of weeks, granted mostly they came from large ladies and my alcoholic Mother in law but still, 10 Stone for a 27 Year old seems rather paltry to me and I DEFINATELY do not want to slip into 9 Stone territory.

Pish. When I was 25, I was 6ft and 10 stone. I love it when overweight people moan about skinny people.

'course, now I'm 13 stone I feel like a bucket of lard

strange reading about the other end of the scale, Jan09 my BMI was 33.3, late Mar09 it was down to 30.52 and my target is 24.

Like Wiggsie, when I was at my fittest I would have been classed as 1.5 to 2 stone overweight. But BMI is a guide and physique, when fit, is often sport orientated. Playing in the scrum in rugby for nearly 20 years, I had a lot of muscle mass and my BMI would have been 27.75 at my peak of fitness. Yet via cycling I'm looking at a weight of 2 stone less as being optimal(and achievable) for me.

Try eating mostly large amounts of green veg, rye bread and baked potatoes, the are slow carb, and fibrous, meaning you'll feel fuller for longer, and the calorie's won't peak and trough as it would if you have quick carb foods or snacks to beat your hunger, it sounds like your blood suger levels are peaking and the dropping - try more slow burn foods and see how that works out.

I'm 23, 56kg, and 1·75m.

56÷(1·75×1·75) = 18·3. I've always been skinny though. Since cycling I've been eating a lot more though.
