I dont think the UCI is as pure as they claim to be

UCI is like Red Bull soap box racing when WHPVA are F1.

What? WHPVA are corrupt, carry out whitewashed investigations with just about no sense that any other racer could win but the one with the biggest budget (allegedly hidden in fancy accounting)? Or so it seems. Of course I don't watch and haven't since Mansell and the young upstart Schumacher.

Sorry, I'm not a fan of F1 because it just seems that one driver / team wins for awhile. Then another driver and team takes over for a few years. All the rest are just taking part to fill the race out. IT doesn't really seem competitive racing. If WHPVA are anything like F1 then who cares about them, so boring. I can't really believe that WHPVA are as bad as F1 as a sport.

F1 technologically without all the bullshit mentioned in your post. But you knew that, and grasped the wrong end anyway 😁

The UCI has two main focuses. One is an attempt to make timed events comparable over the years. The other is safety in massed-start racing.
Within that is the desire to make it about the rider, not the machine.
I doubt they get it right all the time.

IMHO if the UCI was in charge of everything, we would still have steam engines on the rail road, and of course no airplanes. OH and heaven forbid, no computers.

Seems to me the sailors solved this problem a long time ago. You have ‘one design’ classes where everybody races the exact same boat. You have ‘rating rules’ classes similar to ‘formula’ cars, where design innovation is allowed within a fixed set of parameters. And finally you have open classes like Americas cup where anything goes and we end up racing carbon fibre hydrofoils. No reason why cycling can’t do the same, and enjoy the best of all these approaches. Some are a test of racers purely, and others are a test, to varying degrees, of designers and builders. Do we want all these things under the same regulating body? Perhaps not, but no reason why the international body couldn’t be a forum and a point of recognition and record keeping for all of them.

Every boat in a class have exactly the same specifications, the difference in the results come down to the crew, and many boats now have motor driven winches. In my races (24 Hour time trials), there are standard, recumbent and enclosed trike divisions classes and every division has age levels - and all are required to be human powered. I think that is all the divisions one can expect in cycle racing. Whether the bike is carbon, steel, aluminium, titanium or any other fancy material is immaterial.

That sounds exactly like pro cycling one rider rides away with the silver for years in end...!🤣
