If you cycle enough, you WILL occasionally go through a bad patch, be it morons, close passes or bloody idiots. It goes with the territory unfortunately, right or wrong. I suspect 99% of cyclists will wonder why they bother once in a while, I know I have once or twice over the years.
But then I think, fork em, 99% of my cycling is a joy and I won't let morons spoil it. Its a state of mind...iive been there, got fed up etc etc, then suddely thought 'sod em' relaxed and the mojo comes back.

In my last full week of cycling I pushed my mileage up to 50 miles, whilst working 40 hours a week...

Then, suddenly, a couple of close passings by cars and people literally agressively staring me out, I started coming around to the idea that I was putting myself in incredible danger and really needed to stop cycling on main roads.

But having cycled into the city fully on bike etc for so long, my normal backroad loops and routes seemed quite boring and as a result I haven't been on the bike since.

And I'm fed up with my car, a while ago I was going to go car free but now I have a full time job and university and I need a car for those both - uni because I'll give a friend a lift each time and work because its in the opposite direction and seriously unfriendly to bike roads. The car is costing a bomb, I can't afford a new one and refuse to trade it for a similar age / problemed car that could be worse. So it's here to stay.

Meanwhile the bike is in the shed.. someone snap me out of it?

I always hate doing this, although I know it is right. Even as a driver myself (they're a*sholes to other drivers too).. It makes me feel I give them permission to be a bully by accepting some sort of weakness - giving them the confidence and satisfaction to continue, as if they were right
Opposite. They are after a reaction and so don't give them the satisfaction of getting one.

I nearly got wedged between an Icecream van and a set of railings tonight on way home from work because the idoit decided driving straight was too much trouble.

When I shouted at him through the open serving hatch window he just looked blank (no apology for driving into a cycle lane).

Don't get riled very often but if he'd have hit a red light at the top of the road it would have been "interesting".

Just shows driving for a living doesn't seem to make some people any better at it!.

I had one last week, and i did let rip into him, I was at a temporary road works (lights on red) when they changed I allowed a car from the opposite side of the road out as he had high walls to try and see round, the t*t in the car behind me decided to jump me because I had not set off but had to brake because the car on the right, anyway I ensured I held the car up behind to allow the other car out, furthur down the road as overtook me you guessed it he pipped me, largish guy in a BMW let you draw your own conclusions on that one.
