I can't get it hard, do I just pump more?

THIS is the pump you need and the one I have for my road bike.
That has a direct connection and therefore the P fairy's work IMO  http://www.wiggle.co.uk/lifeline-performance-cnc-mini-pump/ is cheaper, blingier and has a double-headed hose connector, although I acknowledge it only does 120psi.

Neither of our faves have a pressure gauge, though. Best I've seen that do are the Topeak Road Morph and Lezyne Micro Floor Drive, but both are £30 not £10-12 so if it's really important to know that the tyre is 120psi instead of "blooming hard" until you get home, then it's cheaper to buy a £10 pump and stick even a relatively expensive £11 presta-valve gauge in the saddlebag  (100psi Schrader gauges are a few pounds because cars use them so they sell more...)

I remember paying a lot less for that when I bought it.
