My trusty steed, a 2008 Merida S'Presso 300D.

AND, by luck, effort, attitude or however it happened, I had yet another cracker this morning - 12.25 miles in 55:54 in glorious but cold sunshine, so already getting a little faster, a lot more confident, and grinning like a berk

I've really enjoyed the last week or so. The weather's proper cold, so the proper winter clothes are out of the wardrobe at last, and the winds have dropped.

Not only that, everyone thinks you're tough for going out in the wind and/or rain. So all in all maximum points on the smugness indicator.

Now the wind has dropped, cycling in the rain is a piece of pee....

Very nice bike there CPD, thought it was a Canondale Badboy at first glance. Those new XT rear mechs are really smooth.
If you're thinking of mudguards a nice set of Race Blades would complete the understated look.

Race Blades? Nah, a set of SKS for the winter is what you need. No more shyte-stripe and a cleaner bike.

Really glad you're enjoying your commute  My commute is oh-so short, I have to take alternate routes just to drag it out a bit. Been using the old roadster this week, and had a ball. Nice smiles from people in their 40s and 50s recognising the style of bike from their younger days has made it all the more pleasurable. Had to take the car this afternoon so I could colelct 30kg of dog food, and it's amazing how much grumpier I've been this afternoon after sitting in relatively light traffic. I miss my bike after half a day

....... I know if everybody did it all the time, the forum would fill up very quickly, but just wanted to say I had an absolutely cracking ride into work this morning on my new (to me) hybrid. 12.54 miles in just under the hour. It felt good, I could easily have gone further and it brings me to just under the 100 mile total since returning to cycling. It will be a long road to get me to where I want to be, but if there are even just a few rides like that thrown in to boost one's spirits (contrast that to the absolute drenching I got yesterday), then its going to be a lot of fun .

Great post, over at bike forums commuting section they have a sticky called'How was the commute today?' Maybe this could work here too, what do you think?

Simon

So, the time into the office (12.54 miles) is dropping steadily - 53:25 this morning. I was so chuffed I immediately planned a detour on the way home, just went for it and did 17.3 miles (1:21), my furthest yet Wooooooooooooohoooooooooooooooo :hello:   . Aiming to do a 50 miler in under 4 hours by the end of Jan (small beer to some of you trim folk on aerodynamic wizz machines I know). Thanks for all the support - it really makes a difference.
