....... I know if everybody did it all the time, the forum would fill up very quickly, but just wanted to say I had an absolutely cracking ride into work this morning on my new (to me) hybrid. 12.54 miles in just under the hour. It felt good, I could easily have gone further and it brings me to just under the 100 mile total since returning to cycling. It will be a long road to get me to where I want to be, but if there are even just a few rides like that thrown in to boost one's spirits (contrast that to the absolute drenching I got yesterday), then its going to be a lot of fun .

Don't apologise. It's great to read these types of posts.
You are on your way now, no going back.. you are hooked, cycling will not save you money at all, it's a slippery slope

Thats what it's all about ;)
All you have to do is get through the winter with some mileage...imagine what you're going to do when the spring comes !!! (thats what i keep reminding myself when its cold and dark)

Thank you for sharing that. You will be surprised to hear that it has put a smile on my face, a spring in my step, and a will to cycle in tomorrow - no rain scheduled until the evening.

Totally aqgree with all of the above. Only three weeks before the nights start to draw out and the sooner the better.

Aye, that's the tough one. This is my second proper week in the saddle (what a strange time of year to take up cycling) and I have to admit I'm finding the weather challanging.

I try to do an hour-ish per day but twice this week that's gone done to half-hour. Atleast I got out on the bike I suppose!

Well done CPD, that's how i started just enjoying it, but then it becomes completly addictive and you want to cycle everyday, and buy all the gear then get a new bike, but you know what, it's still great fun ;)

Well done and keep it up.

Indeed, winter cycling is a challenge, but it can also be invigorating. Just make sure you are well-equipped, especially in the lighting department.

There is a comprehensive winter cycling page as a subsection of the commuting hub at VeloWeb, linked below.

As others have said, if you can build a good base this winter, you'll come out fighting in spring. Just don't overdo it early.

Well done - if you can start and continue at this time of year, then its just going to get better come the summer. I must admit on some of the better days recently I've been taking the less direct way between 2 work locations at lunchtime.
