Looks like i have the start of arthritis in my thumb joints.
I'm sorry to hear that cyberknight. I have it too, but at least I am probably the right age for it.

I'm not being funny, but do you text a lot? I was watching my niece and nephew texting last time I visited them and I thought then that one day there would be huge problems with worn-out thumb joints. My niece in particular - she was regularly exceeding her 5,000 texts a month allowance!

My kids text like there is no tommorow. We try and limit there texting by suggesting they pick up the home phone after 7pm and actually speak to friends ......

This is usually greeted by weird looks and whispered rants containing the words (jeez, old, what do they know, god sake) accompanied by lots of exaggerated huffing and puffing to demostrate how annoyed these fortysomethings can be

I do worry about kids thumbs of the future

I have arthritic nodules developing over the past three months in the distal joints of some of my fingers. They are not too painful at present and get better as the day goes on but doesn't bode well for the future.

I should say that my thumb joints first started aching in cold, wet conditions 15 or 20 years ago, but further degeneration has been pretty slow since then. I hope to get at least another 15 years out of them before real problems develop.

Worth getting it checked if you haven't done. Two types of arthritis, Osteo Arthritis - general wear and tear and Rheumatoid Arthritis - which is an auto immune condition which eventually leads to joint deformity. Either form can be painful and helped by pain killers - but rheumatoid if caught earlier enough can be controlled or at least its progression can be delayed. Colin is right to question whether an element of Repetitive Strain Injury could be a cause, and bear in mind that RSI can be considered an occupational injury (with possible entitlement to compensation) so if it could be work related your employer should take measures to protect you from this.

Good
Went to the docs yesterday and i have been given some naproxen and went to the hospital for blood tests.
Good - the Naproxen should settle the pain down and the blood tests will check for Rheumatoid.
Naproxen is very acidic and can cause gastric bleeding - so do take with food and seek advice if you start to get indigestion/heartburn. I hope it settles down soon.

Getting the messages
I have had occasional sore knee and hip joints and do yoga to try and keep all my joints mobile but have recently started to get pain in my elbow joints as well. What is worrying is the news that antibiotics are becoming less effective and how many of us will need joints replaced in years to come, meaning that even routine operations are going to be more prone to infection. But will this stop any of us cycling till we drop, nope!:bicycle:

The thing is, they spend so much time communicating that they hardly actually do anything to communicate about!
This is actually My philosophy on social media in a nutshell.

Whenever i see a poke, post, twit about someone (who takes pictures of themselves for their profile page, despite having 30,000 friends to take it for them) talking about some great pastime or act they are undertaking i cant help but think...yebbut your not undertaking it at all are you, what you are actually doing is sitting in a corner on your own typing into a phone.
