Hi, i currently ride a Genesis day1. I use this bike mostly for commuting and it takes a fair beating as i ride canal paths etc on my route (20 miles each way into london).
Im constantly told to get myself a 'Proper road bike with clip in's etc' but as i would only be getting this for weekend use i have been somewhat reluctant. I have no trouble keeping up with people i have ridden with and have taken the bike on 100mile plus rides with bigger groups and find riding with guys on £2-5k bikes no big problem...so the question im asking is if i go splash out on a 'proper road bike', how much difference will it really make?

It is really just snobbery, if you are happy with the bike you've got carry on riding it, but then again the ideal number of bikes is as always n+1

I know your game. You are trying to get one of us to say "go on, buy another bike", then you will show your significant other half the reply and he/she can only jump up and down in frustrated anger 'cos he/she cannot get to us.

Oh, welcome to the forum by the way.

ha ha. not at all. :-) was honestly just trying to get an idea of the difference it would make. I seem to be riding more and more of late and i feel in danger of being labeled a 'cyclist'!
