Afternoon all. Ive currently got a Marin Alp hybrid which is 19", according to the frame. I'm thinking of changing to a road bike but need to know what size RB I would need. I'm only trawling the Internet (ebay) at the mo to look at prices but can someone give me an idea of the size I need. I'm 5'10 with 32 inside leg if that helps

Obviously I'll go to a shop prior to buying but thought I'd save some leg work beforehand.

Ta in advance

id say a 56cm frame would be fine for you.

It depends on the frame & manufacturer. I am the same sort of size and my Pearson is a 54.5 cm, the 57cm was way too big - somewhere between 54cm and 57cm on that basis I'd say (I am female, but fairly long arms, needed narrower bars and a shorter stem)

I'd guess at a 56cm. I'm only 5ft9.25in and a bike fit suggested a 56cm but my road bikes are 54cm and 55cm because the next size up in both brands was a 57 or 58cm and I'd rather ride a bike thats slightly too small and adjust than one which is slightly too big but I can't adjust.

Cheers for all your help, 54/56 it is then by the sound of it!

One other question, what's the difference between a Specialized Allez Triple and SA compact? Is it to do with the gearing or the geometry of the bike?

My advice having gone 7 months with the wrong setup for me is to get a fitting at a bike shop first.

Just to throw a spanner in the works, I'm 5'10" ish and comfortably ride a 60cm frame. It's definitely very much dependent on the bike's geometry, and your own geometry - There's no one definite size that will fit suit you for all bikes!

Most manufacturers state the seat tube length as the frame size but the top tube is more important. I'm the same height and inside leg as you and ride a road bike with a 55cm top tube length but the seat tube is only 51cm (it's a medium frame).
