Hi I am looking for a new hybrid under £300, issue is I am very tall so need some help on what to buy as most shops don't stock bigger frames.

What sort of roads will you be riding? Where do you live?
Evans will get you in bikes for test rides for a refundable deposit

Carrera Subway, 20" frame, spend the change on some accessories, or fags, whichever you prefer. You're the same height as as me and I've never had issues with shops not stocking frames for the tall chap.

I am 6' 1" tall and I (and other people I know who are the same height) ride 58 cm bikes, ~23".

I know several riders who are 5' 10" tall and who ride 56 cm bikes, ~22".

I know someone who is 5' 6" tall who rides a 54 cm bike, ~21".

How on earth does a 20" bike fit someone who is 6' 4" tall!?

(The only explanation that I can think of is that the bike has an incredibly sloping top tube and that the size is from the bottom bracket to that. Even so, that sounds very small!)

You are at the extreme end for XL frames. You may need one with the longest horizontal top tube. £300 is quite limiting, is this your absolute limit? For commuting use, there are alternatives to bikes which all cost a lot more. MAXX make some of the largest non-custom bikes. Ridgeback Flight is also a big one.

The subway uses 27.5" wheels which limits tyre choice. You should be riding 700c/29".

All big bikes suffer from small cranks and wonky geometry.
You can often extend the reach of a bike using a longer stem and a seatpost with extra layback. You should take care with fit, in the order:
Pedals to saddle, then saddle to bars.

I'm the same height, but it partially depends on your leg / body length.
Trek 7.* generally come in a large frame 25" and the bottom of the range 7.0 starts around this price.
The decathlon 500 (flat bar) is generally good value, and comes up to xxl,
Plenty of others ...

You don't say where you are, but as mentioned above, visit the shop and talk to them and fitting / return.

Trust me Colin, the 20" Carrera frame is a big old boat anchor. In its proportions and sizing its closer to the MTB end of the hybrid scale than the road bike end.

My weirdly-measured MTB has a nominal "19 inch" frame. It uses the silly system of measuring to a sloping top tube, which does not really give a true impression of size.

I think all bike sizes should be given for centre-to-centre top tube length, or virtual top tube length for compact frames.

Looks like the 22" is suggested for someone 6'4 not 20"?

Available on click and collect at least in SW London

I agree with Colin, I am 6' and ride 23"/58cm bikes, my cousin is 6'5" and can only ride my bikes for short rides. I bought an XL (25") Ridgeback hybrid bike for him for when he visits.

I have a 2016 GIANT escape sport hybrid. I love it. very cool multi purpose bike. I got the escape 3 wich is the bottom of three levels for about $360.00 U.S. dollers. A bit more but worth it! Cool frame internal cables, very sturdy, roles easy, connection points for front and rear pannier racks if you want to tour.
