Hi everyone, my names Kim, im new to this site so please be gentle lol. I am looking for some advice. at the moment i have a very old mountain bike which i am currently trying to up my mileage on as in May I will be riding 100k at night around the streets of London for charity. I am currently up to doing 40k but I am finding my mountain bike hard going so I am want to change to a Hybrid bike, unfortunately I only have about £200 to spend, I know im not going to get much for this money but I have seen on Halfords site (I know its Halfords but its the only place that has anything within my price range) a bike called Carrera Subway Ltd Edition 2013. All the reviews look good but people say that there only using it to commute or short rides. My question is if I buy this bike will it be good enough for me to bike the 100k or is there a better bike out there for my kind of money?
Thank you

Nowt wrong with the Carrerra Subway, I used one for about a year quite happily and it took me on many long rides.

I'd say that you can ride any bike any distance, provided you have the fitness!

hi kim i have had a subway for the last 3 years now, and while you will get people on here that wouden't touch them, for me its been a great bike.I've clocked over 3000 miles on mine, and quite often do rides over 50 miles, 85 been my best so far.
It's never given me any trouble iv'e been all over on it they are very strong bikes.Only things i have replaced on mine is new chain, cassette, tyres, more comfy seat oh and ive never had a punture either, so i say go for it

Before you buy a new bike have you got 'slick' road type tyres on your MTB? They would make a massive difference if you're currently running with knobbly off road tyres, also make sure that they are pumped up to the maximum pressure as indicated on the sidewall.

Also if your MTB has suspension have you locked it out (if you can) and check your saddle height is correct. Lots of things will make a big difference before you spend money on a new bike.

The Carrera Subways are great bikes and very well regarded by members on this forum.
It's Halfords that are the problem.

Is this subway suitable for ladies? I ask from the weight of the bike perspective. Wife is looking for a hybrid you see.

Rutland are doing a Mongoose Crossway 350 for £189 - only xs available but my wife is 5'2". It has lock out suspention and disc brakes. Very tempted. We have also looked at the Ridgeback Comet £226 and a 2nd hand Specialized ladies Vita priced between the two. Has anyone a view on these?
