ISIHAC was /(is?) a great show... didn't catch it all that often, but when I did it was guaranteed to get me guffawing... very clever people, all those involved, and Humph was a perfect host.

He will be much missed.
...and so, as we rapidly approach the bus stop of the Apocalypse, I notice that the Four Horsemen have all come along at the same time...

I'm frightened to switch on the radio these days. Another great British institution gone. How he got away with those Samantha and Lionel Blair stories, I'll never know.

The VM v JH thread reminded me of this -

Tonights piano accompaniment will be provided by Colin Sell. Listeners will be fascinated to learn that Colin used to play with Van Morrison. Whenever he was playing with Morrison, Colin used to greet him with "Van The Man!"
and in return, Morrison would cheerily reply "Sell The Piano!"

Sad indeed, but I suppose one has to say "good innings" and all that - and seemingly a fantastic life - imagine sitting in on ISIHAC everytime!

I hope R4 now rerun the entire back catalogue. Would be great to hear some of the earlier ones - I only came to it quite late, 8 years ago..

Someone said over the weekend, he was possibly the only radio performer who could raise a laugh with silence - the pause after one of the panel had sung something badly...

Sadly missed.

Your ambitions are higher than the BBC's, Arch.

However, the ISIHAC website says:
The tribute programme Humphrey Lyttelton: A Celebration, will be broadcast on Wednesday 30 April at 9.00am and repeated at 9.30pm, on BBC Radio 4.

and you can:
Listen again to the special edition of I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue, broadcast on Sunday 27 April 2008.

Would be great to hear some of the earlier ones

They are repeated sometimes on Radio 7.

Barnet,
He was a very pleasant man in real life. I used to talk to him quite often as he and his wife, who is wheelchair bound used to come into my local pub in Barnet for their lunch. He will be sadly missed by ll who ever made his acquaintance.

The world is a lesser place. His explanations of 'One song to the tune of another' had me in stitches.
I have again to differ with Arch - we need Radio ISIHAC setting up. Run the whole back catalogue continuously, for ever.
Anyway, I've got to go and help Samantha paint a high ceiling. I'm watching her beaver away up a ladder...

I heard perhaps the most outrageous one again yesterday - "samantha is meeting a gentleman friend who restores furniture, as she has a cupboard to restore. She's looking forward to stripping her tallboy while he scrapes the varnish and wax off beside her...."

How did they get away with those at 6.30pm?;)
