What was hilarious was in the madison, when it turns-out that Hugh is married to Anita Lonsbrough the British swimmer from the 1960's whose long-standing records Becky Adlington broke when winning her golds in the pool.
In the middle of the madison, the studio insisted on talking to Anita about the swimming, as she sat next to Hugh in the commentary box and doing his lap-charting.
Hugh was clearly really visibly frustrated about this, out of the discussion between studio and his wife, and his lap-chart wasn't being done and he wasn't able to commentate on the madison even though it was taking place in front of him. He was squirming around in his seat, pulling faces, clearly not happy at all, then as soon as the swimming discussion finished he was off about the cycling like a coiled-up spring !
I admit I find some of his phrases about riders being 'on fire' or 'on the rack' rather tedious when you've heard them 20 times in 2 days and I wish he could make some attempt to pronounce foreigners names correctly (his 'Michael BORE-GAIN of France' for example), but he is a great enthusiast and track cycling expert, not some BBC commentator from some other sport they've shoehorned-in to do the commentary on a sport they'd never seen before.
