As above, I'm looking at upgrading my current LG Cookie to something a bit more 'bling' and modern.
I currently have a PAYG phone that I use for text and calls not internet browsing, would this be any good as an introduction into the world of mobile internet?
Would ideally go for a Desire but can't really justify the 25-35 per month contract.
The Wildfire I can get or 15 a month, or could stay PAYG and buy a bolt on internet package, any thoughts?
Cheers.

My initial thoughts are that PAYG for net usage would be very costly-unless someone has seen a good deal - worth logging how much you spend a month on the phone and upgrading to a contract on that amount perhaps?

What he said, unless you've got a bolt on, searching the internet is useless on PAYG. Saps your credit.

I'm sure (almost) that I can get a bolt-on for £2 a week but will check that, I top up £10 a month now and get £20 extra free credit on top of that which lasts for a month, I then use my original £10.

ah well, pots..not the first time I've been mistaken for a fella!!

You might want to check out Giff gaff- there is no phone customer support - all done online through people who use giff gaff on a forum but they might have a deal there that is worth using- I know that they've got unlimited net usage up until the end of February - a friend of mine who is using Giff gaff and has for some time said that their unlimited net use was only until July but has been extended to Feb and most likely will be extended again. Now the thing is most phone providers are capping their net usage. giffgaff works on PAYG - too much to explain here but google them. Yopu'd have to fork out for the phone yourself though- but then it would be the case if you were going PAYG anyway

To get smilies, you use the full interface, but the mobile one is way good !! and less clunky.

I've got a much older Magic (nearly 2 years old) and it's the business. Just got 2.2 operating system and very impressed.

Endomondo on Android phones is good when you are out on a ride, records your route on Google maps works out your elevation speed distance calories burnt etc.

I'm sure it's on Shauns' ever growing 'to do' list.
My Desire is £25 a month with 500 minutes, 5000 texts and 1gb data. I use wi-fi to connect at home and work, so I only use around 200mb, even with the phone set to auto-download weather, facebook updates, news... etc and to feed my regular CC habit whenever I can.

As for smileys, you just need to learn the code. Most of it is pretty obvious but you can soon pick up the ones you use regularly - so :roll eyes: is  :un sure: is  and :be cool: is :becool: (obviously without the spaces).

I got the Desire a few months back, and I wish I'd done it sooner. If only for Angry Birds. :tired:

Having done extensive (5 mins) research I can get the phone for £180 which I think is a bit dear, but then I top up £10 get £20 free credit and if I pay £2 per week I get unlimited browsing, now the £2 will come out of the £10 top up and I then use the £20 for any calls and texts. So by my reckoning 24 months at =£240 + £180 = £420.

Contract = Free phone 24 months at £25= £600.

I then have the option to not top up any month I'm not using it as much

Btw this is on the Tesco network.

Sounds like a plan to me.
