Possibly, I just sent my Edge 500 to them for repair, 2 years out of warranty, the guy on the phone said they would cover the breakage as an act of good will unless they have good reason to believe the damage is crash damage.

Which Garmin strap is it? There are more than 1 type.

It's not the premium but the one with a hard centre and two plastic sensors either side.

Yeah they should do, i had one replaced about a month ago and it was the replacement for the replacement so at least a couple of years old.

I'll give them a ring and see what they say.

They won't replace my strap, too long out of warranty, which is disappointing but fair enough I guess. I tried telling them I have a 10 year old cheap one that still works perfectly but they were unimpressed, even suggested I tried using it if it was ant compatible

What I might do is try swopping the elastic as Zizou is spot on with his diagnosis. It just doesn't hold the tension anymore and that I think is the problem. Shame they don't sell it as a spare. Actually I might try one more attempt to get the elastic bit out of them.

I've had my hrm strap a while now (at least 5years) its an old style Garmin; it can give me spurious readings (well in excess of my max) if it loses contact with the skin I think or I pass a significant interference source. If that doesn't occur in the next ride its fine and I'm not rushing out to buy another anyway ;)

A HRM is a cheap and cheerful simple ECG. The electrodes that contact the skin require a layer of conductive gel or liquid. This is usually the patient's own perspiration.

Recently replaced my Garmin "soft" strap with one of the original hard plastic ones.

The soft one was showing spikes in my HRM up to 240+ and almost constantly over 190+. It was fine at first but after about 8 monhts it became pointless to even bother putting on. Seems to be a pretty regular complaint on the Garmin forums.

New original strap is much more reliable.

Sounds familiar Idoru.

Discovered the elastic from my older hr strap fits the Garmin sensor and is in much better condition, seems to be made of a heavier elastic. So I'll use that and see if it's better. I hadn't realized how knackered the Garmin elastic had become.

Apparently there is a soft Polar strap that the Garmin HRM unit itself can clip onto that is much better. Worth a search on the Garmin forums to see the 100's of suggestions on how to fix the issue... none of which worked for me.

I went back to the old style strap simply because the last one I had was fine, a new one cost me £35'ish from Amazon, at that price I'm prepared to replace them every 18 months or so if needed (and it was a good excuse to sneak a Garmin bike/cadence sensor onto the order and bamboozle wifey that they were 2 bits of the same thing  )

I used a Polar strap to replace my Garmin one. The transmitter units on both have press studs that correspond exactly. Simply pop both transmitters off and put the Garmin unit on the Polar sensor strap. Alternatively, the Polar soft strap can be bought without the transmitter for around £10. The Polar soft strap has far better longevity by all accounts.

First Google hit I got for a replacement: Newitts £10.80
