HR straps

I think mine's broken. It's started giving really odd results every now and again. I replaced the battery, cleaned it and tightened it and it was OK for a few months but it's doing it again now. Today it said I'd hit my max HR as I ran down a slope onto the beach and a few days ago, it consistently recorded a run at precisely the same pace as the previous run but at 10 beats higher.

What are people's experiences, do they break down like this? Seems like it's just not making a good connection anymore.

is a garmin one? if it is they tend to do that after a while - give a call to customer services and they will send a new one out (the fabric strap bit seems to is the problem, not the plastic monitor bit)

Not sure then, my Garmin HR strap has been very good, not experienced the above and it has been on the same battery for 3 years, lol.

Edit: Cross posted with Zizou, my comment was NOT in response to his!

Yes it's a Garmin and that makes sense. It's past it's warranty period though, will they still help?

If you ever find the answer I'd like to know too. Mine was hopeless for a while when paired to my USB stick or my ANT+ phone. Kept dropping it's connection but fixed itself the last time I rode Hell Hath No Fury(lakes worth of sweat), how I have no idea.

Possibly, I just sent my Edge 500 to them for repair, 2 years out of warranty, the guy on the phone said they would cover the breakage as an act of good will unless they have good reason to believe the damage is crash damage.

Which Garmin strap is it? There are more than 1 type.

Yep the soft "premium" HR straps are utter pony. Many tales of them failing on the Garmin forums. Either get one of the older "Hard" straps or another ANT+ Compatible brand.

BTW I have an older "Hard case" Garmin strap and it's been rock solid for 2+ yrs.

Also the Polar stuff is NOT compatible with Garmin. Polar uses their own encoding method and does not follow the ANT+ standard used by Garmin.

Yeah they should do, i had one replaced about a month ago and it was the replacement for the replacement so at least a couple of years old.

The older hard strap HRM is the type I have that I said lasted 3+ years on a single battery.

I also now have a new premium one, which atm, is working fine. My girlfriend has one of the older type, not been used though, so no idea how it is fairing, but it will become mine if this premium one fails at some point.
