Bought a new bike from a Dealers Web site. Noticed the Back wheel was out by 4mm
Their warranty states "upto 4mm is a standard and is acceptable"

Any comments would be most welcome

I had been told that when I bought a new cheap hack from a well known bike store. I just added that to the list of things on my own PDI (Post Delivery Inspection) which included hub service and BB out to make sure some grease had been used in manufacture.

4mm does seem a lot. Brake pads have to be set a long way off the rim to avoid rubbing and then lots of lever pull to get the bike to stop.

Just checked their Web site
Its still there under Warranty

"Wheels on bicycles are true to 4mm (this is a common standard for determining wheel build quality)."

'tis indeed still there.... and it's still utterly appaling

"this is a common standard for determining wheel build quality".... common enough on supermarket BSOs maybe.

Interestng "dealer", they sell mostly crap, and the few items of decent kit on offer are massively overpriced.

4mm is over the top and not acceptable on a new bike. I would complain and ask that it be trued properly. Beware of dealers who tell you to bring the bike back after a hundred miles or so, in order for the wheels to be re-trued. If the wheel is properly made and the spokes de-stressed, then this should not be necessary.
