Hi all
I can really only go once, because it's a 6 hour round trip and a day off work for me.
My intention is to speak to them on the phone to get them help me decide on frame size, order the bike and then do a full fitting session on collection. That's what they've suggested today by email (they had tech difficulties last couple of days, apparently)
The other option is buy a Giant Defy 1 locally for the same money. I've already been on the turbo on that one, but they just sized me up by eye (Medium Large), put me on the turbo and said "yep, that looks OK".
Surely Planet X can pretty much do the same thing by height and inside leg over the phone?
As for whether I like the frame, I'm not used to a road bike anyway, so riding it around the car park for a bit, or even taking them out for 10 minutes, I just don't know what to look for. I have done that with a couple of bikes already and they more or less all felt the same. So I have to go on the bike's reputation rather than my own opinion. I have been riding a Spesh Hardrock MTB every day for the last two years, so a road bike does feel quite different, but I think that's a good thing.
If the consensus here is that this Planet X thing is a really stupid idea, then I will respect that, obviously.
Thanks for your help
Mark
