I got one of these, and it made removing the bearing races very easy, on my first (and so far, only) headset replacement. I know some people could make their own, but I've never been very good at that kind of thing.
Once you've got one out you can just use a large socket slid into the headtube with a tight fit to knock the other out. Prefer a socket, less chance of damage than using a sharp object.
