Bring the bike indoors last thing at night. Problem sorted.

I thought I was going to have a frozen lock trouble with the carpark gate at work this morning but just enough heat from the keys got it going.....
It's that time of year again. A couple of times every winter I'm out the back at 6:30 am trying to unfreeze the shed padlock to get my bike out.

I brought all the padlocks in yesterday, dried them out on the radiator and oiled them up. Any suggestions of how to stop them freezing up?
Surprised no-one has mentioned the warm air solution.
I cup my mouth round the bit where the key inserts and exhale a few warm breaths over it. I have never known it not to work. It's not as if the whole thing turns into a block of ice- it's just a few ice crystals.

Warm it up with a jet lighter? The ones which run off butane with the blue flame. Should have the lock thawed in seconds. A bit more portable than your kitchen hob, and you can apply it straight to the lock.

Yes that's what i've been doing the past few mornings to open the padlock on the works gate.

I have been using Servisol silicone grease for several years with excellent results. It works and it doesn't attack rubber or plastic. You get it in Maplin. Correction, you used to get it at Maplin, I can't find it ATM.
