Well you seem to know a lot about a book that you haven't read, says it all really.

I would advise the OP to be open minded and take a look.

Lol. I've looked through it - and concluded that while it is useful for any random individual getting off the couch and trying to lose some weight, it's not particularly useful for anyone who is already riding and/or training regularly on a bike, in order to improve on a bike, such as the OP.

The book itself makes no claims to be aything other than a general fitness/exercise book. You might as well suggest that the OP takes up cross-fit. There are many bike-related exercise books out there - and yet bafflingly, you specifically recommend one of the ones that aren't.

I've been using the bkool software to get back into cycling whilst the weather's bad. Either buy the bkool or elite real trainer to use with it. Great tool and certainly keeps you motivated. Zwift will be another option coming up soon.

Well no trainer yet and hopefully a real ride tomorrow
I have done a few intervals, just lately settled for pushing just a little harder than I might manage on a longer ride. Still don't think I push as hard as I could

You do not need to push as hard as you can.

Frankly you are doing plenty of exercise even with the reduced time. I am sure you are very fit just that you are used to do more. My sense is that any increase would be marginal. You might just want to increase your riding speed within the new hours. Anyway things like ligaments, knees and all those stuff that require replacement surgery do get worn out faster as the age increases. They might appreciate the reduced strain and impact.
