IMO they're a terrible idea. Drivers will be expecting hand signals when approaching a cyclist.

What about in the dark ?
You could apply the same arguement for normal bike lights though and we all agree that lights are vital in the dark.Drivers have had (for some time now) the ability to turn or press a switch and allow their cars to produce beams of light from the front (and rear.) This allows them to see what is happening in front of them (and others to see them)![]()

How would bike lights allow a driver with no lights to see a hand signal?
No no - a driver with lights or not would be able to see the electric bike indicators whereas he might not be able to see a hand signal.
No no - a driver legal or illegal would be able to see the cycle indicator lights in the dark whereas he woudnt be able to see the hand signal.So they are only of benefit in protecting ones self against illegal drivers?
