Am I reading this correctly? OP has done 36 miles a week for two months prior to that 8 miles twice a week, and been MTB 8 times...

Forget crank length and protein, just ride the bike more! :bicycle:
Amazing how complicated people make things:boxing: In another thread people think milk is a great energy drink!

You're riding a carbon road bike so I'll assume it's not the bike that's holding you back.

How do you feel when you're riding? Do you feel you are pushing yourself? Your mileage is very low. From the info in your post I would say you are lacking cycling-strength - you're a bit of a lightweight (in the nicest possible way).

More miles and put some intensity in to it. If you want to get faster there has to be some pain - are you actually up for it? Keep working hard and it will come - good luck.

Milk is a great drink which shares a lot of the nutritional benefits of many sports drinks, carbs and protein and if you go semi or fully skimmed very little fat. And it's cheap. I use it for recovery as I recon I'd have butter if I stuck it in my bottle on these roads!

Ride as hard as you can three times a week, the other rides should be gentle. Work on staying aero - it makes a huge difference.
