Having mucked this up once, and then nearly crashing again a second time on Wednesday, I need to know how to corner at speed!

Are you supposed to lean into the corner, or keep your weight vertically above the bike?

I twist my upper body to face into the corner, should I do this or not?

Do you press on the outside pedal, or shift your weight onto it?

Anyone know some decent guides/videos on how to do this?

Cheers

Keep your body in line with the centre line of the bike, lean, trust the tyres and set the outside pedal at the bottom of its stroke with as much weight as possible on that to lower your CG.

Forget that malarky you see motorbikers doing, getting off the saddle and scraping a knee!

Check ahead for patches of wet leaves.
Don't roll over white lines.
Watch for metal man-hole covers.

Keep an eye open for diesel spillages.
Crisp packets.
Discarded newspapers.
Manure.

Grit patches.
Broken bottles.
Twigs.
Fallen trees.
Parked cars.

Sheep.

Hitch hikers.

I'm amazed at how easy it is to get round fast downhill bends that I almost crashed on when I first rode them 20 years ago. I push really hard on the outside pedal, as if trying to snap it off. It's best to check your pedals from time to time because if you do manage to snap one off, you'll be in big trouble!

Rule No 1 - don't pedal through fast corners!
Rule No. 1a - except when riding fixed wheel, when you should!

Unless on a trike, when you get as much of your bodyweight as possible to the inside of the turn. Failing to do so will result in you looking at the sky with a trike on top of you. DAMHIK,IJK,OK?

Relax, do all your braking before the corner and steer with your eyes. Look where you're going and you will go where you're looking, then everything else will take care of itself.

x2 , if you don't look at the part of the road you want to be on you'll drift, then as others have said , press on the outside pedal.

Looking at my crude diagram below, would I try and keep my centre of gravity above the blue line, or yellow line?

I don't understand how you can shift your centre of gravity if you have to lean into a corner, so wouldn't your CoG be along the yellow line?

OK, assuming the conditions are A1, the corner is a right turn on your commute across a single carriageway. What's the maximum speed you would be comfortable cornering at?

Imagining that as the rear view of a bike heading away from us, if you weight the left pedal, you are shifting your CoG somewhat further to the left than it would be if you weighted both pedals equally.
