Hi,

I have Shimano BR-M445 Hydraulic disc brakes and they have been working fine for ages. All of a sudden when I took my front wheel off to change a tyre the brakes started rubbing when I put the wheel back on. The back was doing it as well in the past but I managed to fix that by tightening a screw. The front disc doesn't seem to have any similar adjuster (if that is indeed what I turned). I've put a few pictures below and if anyone could advise me on where I should start checking/turning/adjusting, I would greatly appreciate it.

Firstly make sure the wheel is in the dropouts completely and disc is running true.

My method, with the juicy 3s on my bike: slacken off the 2 allen bolts holding on the caliper on to the posts. Holding brake on, tighten bolts back up again.

Doubtless there will be another way, but its worked for me.

When I get that, it's because the wheel isn't seated at exactly the same angle that it was previously.

You can either adjust the angle of your calipers, as Pieman says, or release the QR lever and wriggle the axle around until it's sitting in the same place that it was previously. I prefer the second option, mainly because I know that I'm going to forget to tighten the caliper bolts one day.

from those pics could you possible tell me which are the claiper bolts ? The one's on the same side as the "Shimano" writing ? Tried to loosen them before to do what you are saying, seemed almost welded shut, couldn't get them to budge, figured they weren't supposed to.

Oooo... I'd definitely recommend adjusting the position of the axle first.

The bolts we're referring to are the ones which hold the caliper to the fork legs, which are the ones top and bottom. Don't undo them, just loosen them a little, pull the brake lever and tighten them whilst holding the brake on hard.

As norm said, first try releasing the QR, then clamp on the brake lever - then redo the QR. When you let go of the brake lever it SHOULD be re-centered. If the doesn't work then loosen the bolts that hold the caliper, clamp on the brake lever and retighten the bolts.

I went through this palava last year with my first hydraulic disc brakes.

Cheers,
