as someone who has signed up for 519 miles in 5 consecutive days i fully support this madness

Here for rides.
I've done 200 miles in 24h. Ending up in mid-Wales. It is do-able, even if it did put me off riding for a few days.

The ton-fifty from Llanelli to Anglesey though... given the texture of the land between those two points, that would be another matter. I think that would be harder than the first leg. Lots of lumps in Wales and some of the hills in the vicinity of Carmarthenshire are utter mofo's.

Go right ahead, maybe get a whole lot of training in beforehand.
I think the Sinclair C5 would have been a good idea too, were it lighter and executed with today's technology.

Not to sure?
I've done Weston Super Mare and back from mine, 204 miles in 14 hours. It would have been nearer to 214 miles, but my front light failed and I had to picked up by MrsW as it was simply to dangerous to carry on around the lanes to home with no light!

So yep go for it, its perfectly doable IMHO

Our corporate charity is the Air Ambulances, and I've now been thrown a challenge to make a link with the Welsh service and also to raise a decent chunk myself. Having a competitive streak and a very small team I want to be able to outdo my senior colleagues, almost all of whom have very large teams.

We're in Guildford; they're in Llanelli. That's about 225 miles apart, via Reading, the A4, the Bath&Bristol path, the Severn Bridge and chunks of South Wales. Would it be stupidly insane for me to set up a challenge ride for myself for later this year? Nonstop, of course, within, say, 24 hours. I've got the base fitness, even if I am a little large at the moment, but I have no idea how long it would talk to be able to extend to this sort of distance.

They also have a base up near Angelsey. Another 150 miles or so onwards. A little devil on my shoulder us asking me why not.

Fast but crap. I'd be happy to help with nicer routes between Reading and the Severn Bridge. You've no need to use the Bristol-Bath path to get to the bridge.

Edited to add: I did a nice route last time I rode from Bristol to Cardiff, for the FNRttC. I probably have the GPX track somewhere.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
Thanks all. It's going to be difficult not to do it now, isn't it?

How long does it take to get match-fit for this sort of thing? For those of you who have not ridden with me, I'm currently an overweight trundler. At the back of my mind is the thought that this would give me an impetus to get less overweight and less of a trundler.

I guess everyone follows a different plan and starts from different levels of fitness ... but last year I started my training for the Ride London in late April and went from finding 10 miles a push to riding the 100 in relative comfort in 3 months. However as that's not even half the distance I don't know how much of a benchmark that is. I would imagine that if you are on your bike regularly for 6 months you would get there. The challenge I found was clearing the diary to allow time for the long training rides.

Sorry - I should add that I'm an overweight trundler who is riding 80-idd miles this weekend and 100 at Ride London. I'm used to long distances, but not super-long
